ALICE NIGHBOR
Alice Nighbor, age 95, passed away at Vista Pointe Assisted Living in Menomonee Falls on Monday, September 2, 2024. Alice Nighbor was born January 24th, 1929, in the Township of Mecan, Montello, daughter of Paul and Bertha Tetzlaff. She was baptized February 13th, 1929, at St. John’s Lutheran of Mecan by Pastor William Hartwig. She was confirmed May 9th, 1943, at St John’s Lutheran Church, Montello, by Pastor Hartwig. She attended 8 years at Country School in Town of Mecan. She graduated from Montello High School in 1946. She was united in marriage to Lawrence M Nighbor on June 7th, 1947, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Mecan by Pastor Harold Warnke. She lived and farmed in the Dalton/Kingston area first, then purchased a farm in the Cambria area, where she and Lawrence farmed and raised 6 children. They sold the farm in 1984 and purchase a home near Friesland, where her husband Lawrence passed away in 1987. She remained there throughout the years.
She worked at Handcraft Company in Princeton, canning companies in Markesan and Cambria. In 1984 she started at Alsum Produce in Friesland, where she worked for 31 years, retiring at the age of 84. She loved her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved playing cards, feeding and watching the birds, and gardening. She made many trips to different states, attending the LWMS Convention. She traveled to California, Hawaii, New York, Niagara Falls, a 4-week Europe trip, and an Alaskan cruise. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Kingston since around 1948. She is survived by 4 children, Linda Klawitter, Shirley (Scott) Gelinskey, Keith (Kathy) Nighbor, and Steven (Sandy) Nighbor; daughter-in-law, Val Nighbor; 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Elmer, Erwin, and Fred; one sister, Adeline; her husband, Lawrence; one daughter, Karen (Russel) Lange; one son, Larry Nighbor, another son-in-law, Joseph Van de Plasch; one grandson, Nolan Smits; one great granddaughter, Evonne Dean; and other relatives.
Visitation for Alice will take place on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church, 316 Vine St., Kingston, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m with Rev. Kurt Hagen officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery in Princeton. Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 181 S. Main St., Markesan is honored to be serving the family.
